The solution has evolved from a planned information system (GTFS) to a real-time information system (GTFSRT). In practice, it is a web application with around 1,000 signalling devices spread throughout the city – the blue points/beacons – through which Explore Porto provides information on places of interest and mobility solutions (bus stops). This means that anyone (resident or visitor) with a smartphone can instantly obtain information about their current location and surroundings, as well as the best route to get to any part of the city. The application currently has over 120,000 users.
